Why BAJUS and spot-based estimates differ
The live panel below converts the international XAU/USD midpoint into BDT and applies 22K purity. BAJUS publishes a domestic hallmarked jewelry rate that can reflect local market decisions and is the better source for an official Bangladesh retail reference.
A jeweler’s final invoice can also contain making charges, tax, stones, and design premiums. A buyback quote usually removes those retail additions and may deduct testing or margin. Always label which number you are comparing.
Gram, bhori, and karat conversions
One bhori/tola is 11.6638 grams. A 22K bhori contains about 10.692 grams of fine gold before any non-gold component allowance. To convert a 22K per-gram rate into a bhori rate, multiply it by 11.6638.
BAJUS also distinguishes 21K, 18K, and traditional gold. Do not use the 22K rate for jewelry with a different hallmark; the purity difference is large enough to invalidate the comparison.
A safer buying or selling checklist
For a purchase, request an itemized receipt showing net gold weight, karat, per-gram or per-bhori metal price, making charge, tax, stone price, and exchange terms. For a sale, request tested purity, payable weight, price basis, and deductions.
