Purity

21K gold is 21 parts gold out of 24: 87.5% fine gold, normally marked 21K or 875.

Price formula

21K value = fine-gold spot price × 0.875 × item weight after a correct unit conversion.

Best comparison

Compare melt value separately from workmanship, tax, stones, retail margin, and a dealer’s buyback deduction.

How to calculate 21K gold value

  1. 1Check the piece for a 21K or 875 mark, then confirm questionable or unmarked jewelry with a professional test.
  2. 2Weigh only the gold-bearing parts in grams, tola, pennyweight, or troy ounces.
  3. 3Select 21K so the calculator applies the 0.875 fine-gold ratio to the live or manual spot price.
  4. 4If you are selling, compare the 100% melt estimate with the buyer’s actual payment after all deductions.

To put this into practice, use Gold Karat Calculator, check the assumptions with Gold Price Per Gram, and compare the result in 22K Gold Calculator.

What 21K and 875 mean

Karat is a fraction of 24. Dividing 21 by 24 gives 0.875, so a 10 gram 21K item contains 8.75 grams of fine gold before any allowance for stones or non-gold findings. The millesimal mark 875 expresses the same purity as 875 parts gold per thousand.

A stamp is evidence, not a laboratory result. Repairs, solder, replacement clasps, plating, or counterfeit marks can change the recoverable content. Use a competent jeweler or refiner when the amount is material.

Worked formula without a stale price

Take the live 24K price per gram shown on the site and multiply by 0.875. Multiply that 21K gram rate by the item’s net gold weight. For example, a 12 gram piece contains 12 × 0.875 = 10.5 grams of fine gold; its melt estimate is 10.5 multiplied by the current pure-gold price per gram.

This page calculates from the current XAU/USD quote and, when needed, a live currency conversion. It does not freeze a dollar number into the article, so the method stays accurate when the market moves.

Melt value, retail price, and buyback price are different

A new-jewelry price can include design work, labor, tax, store overhead, and local premiums. A scrap buyer works in the opposite direction and may deduct assay, refining, risk, and margin from melt value. Neither number should be presented as if it were the spot value of the metal.

Ask for weight, tested purity, price basis, and every deduction in writing. That makes two offers comparable even when one dealer quotes per gram and another quotes a total.

Common questions

How pure is 21K gold?

Exactly 87.5% by the karat formula. The remaining 12.5% is alloy metal added for color and durability.

Is 875 the same as 21K?

Yes. 875 is millesimal fineness; 21K is the same proportion expressed out of 24 parts.

Is the live number a guaranteed selling price?

No. It is a spot-based melt estimate. A real offer can be lower after testing, refining, non-gold weight, and margin.
